Carbon High School has hired former Emery High School baseball manager Rob Smith to fill its vacant position, the school announced Monday morning.

“We are happy to be adding Rob to our staff,” said Carbon Principal Jarad Hardy. “There is a lot of excitement surrounding our program and we are ready to see what he brings to the table.”

Smith has coached the Emery baseball program for the past five seasons. He served as an assistant coach at USU Eastern prior to his time at Emery. Smith will fill the vacancy created following the retirement of Jeff Cisneros in September after eight seasons as manager.

“I’m excited to take over a great program, and coach in this community where the history of baseball means so much,” said Smith. “The seniors on this team are an excellent group of kids and are ready to go compete for a state championship. I am excited to help them get better day in and out.”

Smith played high school baseball at Bear Lake in Montpelier, Idaho. He continued his baseball career at the College of Eastern Utah in 2007. After returning from his LDS mission, Smith returned to CEU as a player in 2010.

After his college playing days ended, Smith served as an assistant under Scott Madsen at USU Eastern from 2011 through 2015. In 2018 he became the Emery baseball manager where he finished with a record of 54-53 in five seasons.

“I want to give a big thank you to the administration at Emery High School for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead their outstanding student-athletes,” said Smith. “They are an awesome group of kids that work extremely hard, and I know they will have plenty of success moving forward.”

The next step for Smith will be filling out his coaching staff. The assistant positions will open soon on the district’s website for those interested in applying.
