The Central Utah Grazing Expo is coming to Carbon County on Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20 at the Carbon County Event Center. Everyone is invited to this event to have an opportunity to sit in on various workshops, enjoy the trade show and field tour.

“So kind of the core idea is we brought together about seven different agency partners or so, this is really focused on public lands grazing management. So it’s a way for us to get producers, agency folks, kind of everybody together to offer an educational opportunity that benefits everybody. So we kind of change up what we’re talking about each year, it is structured very similarly to like our Crop Schools. It’s getting everyone together for a great opportunity,” stated Extension Assistant Professor, Steven Price. Some of the agencies that will be on hand for the expo will be the Forest Service, NRCS, and BLM.

There will be several workshops available for attendees to sit in on. “Coming out of last year, and kind of looking at potential predictions for this year, drought is something that is still heavily on everybody’s mind, so we’ll talk little bit about how drought affects public lands grazing. Also, fire management and how we kind of plan around that. Are two kind of big things that we wanted to talk about,” said Price. They will also speak on Virtual fencing, Larkspur threats and management, Local beef processing, and Sheep mineral management.

There is no cost to attend this event, they just ask that you call to RSVP. “If you forget to RSVP, come on in anyway. But if you know you’re going to be there, call us up, tell us you’re on your way, and that just helps us plan for the meal. But yea, your right, there is no cost, we don’t want to turn anybody away,” explained Price. This again is held at the Carbon County Event Center at 450 South Fairgrounds Way in Price. Guests can RSVP by calling the USU Extension Office at (435) 636-3235 or (435) 770-6156.

Thursday will feature a field day tour for guests to enjoy that basically will be supporting what was discussed the day before. “Because we have people coming from a lot of different areas, what we’ll do is we’ll actually meet at the Event Center on the 20th and then at 8:30 am – 9:00 am once we kind of got everyone rallied up, we’ll actually be out on the Manti LaSal for most of the day. So we’ll kind of caravan down there from the Event Center,” said Price.

For further information and details about the event contact the USU Extension Office at (435) 636-3235.
