Wednesday’s win moves Carbon to 12-4-1 on the season, and more importantly into the 3A quarterfinals on Saturday. Earning the right to host the third round of the tournament, Carbon will welcome in No. 5 Manti, with a spot in the final four on the line.
Saturday’s matchup will mark the second meeting of the season between the two teams, the first coming in the season opener back on Aug. 4. A keenly contested battle throughout, Manti edged out the Lady Dinos with a slim 3-1 win.
The winner of Saturday’s showdown will advance to the semifinals to face either No. 1 Real Salt Lake Academy or No. 8 Delta. The semifinals will be held at Jordan High School on Thursday, Oct. 20.
Only eight teams remain in contention for the 3A crown. Through two rounds no upsets have occurred, leaving the top eight seeds competing for the championship.
