Many voters in the Carbon County area should be receiving their mail in ballots around the 18th of October so Castle County Radio took some time to sit down with Carbon County Clerk Auditor, Seth Marsing to discuss some questions that voters have been asking his office.

When does early voting begin?

“So we’ll have Early Voting in the Administration Building as well Nov. 1 through Nov. 4 and its generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, that Friday it will be 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Per state code Utah State has made us go all by mail voting couple of years ago. But we still have the in-person on machine voting for early voting and the day of voting,” stated Marsing. Voters will need to present their photo ID in order to do early-voting. The Administration Building is located at 751 East 100 North.

When do mail in ballots get mailed out?

“So the first day that we can send them out is Oct. 18 but they generally will take a couple of days to get to the mailboxes,” said Marsing. If by the Oct. 25 you have not received your mail in ballot you can go to the Carbon County Clerk’s Office to check on the status of your ballot. There office is located in the Administration Building.

When does your mail in ballot have to be post marked?

“The postmark date has to be the 7th of November or earlier. It can’t be postmark on Election Day so if you’re going to drop it in the mail drop it in the day before,” said Marsing. Voters are urged to follow all instructions on their mail-in ballots, especially remembering to sign the ballot before returning.

Are there drop-box locations available?

“We have two at the county, one in our office, and one in the parking lot. Then we have one in East Carbon City Hall, Wellington City Hall, Helper City Hall, and Scofield City Hall,” said Marsing. Voters are urged to follow all instructions on their mail-in ballots, especially remembering to sign the ballot before returning.  Postage is not necessary when dropping ballots off at a drop-box location.

When will election results be posted?

“We’re always tried to put results out within an hour, hour and a half, of the close of voting. So we try to get it out by 9:30 pm election night and they’re really preliminary results because there usually a couple of ballots that come in that we have to verify signatures or whatever. But generally, all the voting is counted by 9:30 pm that night,” stated Marsing.
