The USU Extension – Carbon County is hosting another Quick & Easy Cooking course on Oct. 19 at 7:00 pm. With it being Halloween season event organizers decided to show case Hauntingly Easy Meals for Halloween with the community. Healthy Living Educator, Heather Salee-Cloward stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details with listeners.

“This is kind of based off of what I do at home for my kids before we go trick or treating. I’m really big on eating before we go out trick or treating so that way they’re not sitting there filling up on the candy throughout the entire night and then they’re going out having something warm on their bellies. So this night we’re going to do one of my favorite traditions that I do at home and its going to be homemade chili. Its not a spicy chili its actually more along the lines of a sweet chili and then homemade corn bread as well to go with it,” said Salee-Cloward. There will be different devices used to prepare the meals such as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, instapot and air fryer.

A few of the sponsoring organizations are C.A.R.E. Coalition, Castleview Hospital, USU Extension and Create Better Health. “So I work for Create Better Health, which is a program ran out of Extension and we teach how to cook affordable meals for SNAP participants, so its kind of based around that. We want to teach people that you can have healthy meals, big yummy meals for an affordable cost. You don’t necessarily have to go spend a whole bunch of money and utilize the choices you already have in the kitchen. So its all about saving you money and eating healthy,” stated Salee-Cloward. Create Better Health is designed to increase the knowledge, skill set, and overall well-being of those it serves.

The cost to attend the event is free and to register for the event, you must do so on https://www.eventbrite.com/ The format is a little bit different as far as how the Quick & Easy Cooking course is offered for online viewing. “So if you’re not able to come out and if you wanted to, or you know things come up and you don’t make it, you can always go on to our YouTube channel where we will now be posting them,” said Salee-Cloward. The event will take place at the USU Extension Classroom at 751 East 100 North, Suite 1700 at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
