The Lady Spartan volleyball team was on the road for their final regular season contest on Tuesday night to face the Grand County Red Devils. In their second meeting this season, Emery came out swinging and didn’t let up until they came away with the 3-0 win. The win landed them in the No.15 spot of the final RPI that was released by the Utah High School Activities Association on Wednesday.

The second meeting between the two schools was a carbon copy of the first with Emery taking a three set win in the initial match 3-0. This meeting was even more lopsided with Emery taking the first set win 25-10, then following that up with a decisive 25-14 win in set two. Emery followed that up with a 25-7 win in the third and final set.

The Lady Spartans finished the season 13-13 overall and an impressive 6-2 mark in Region 12 play, the only two losses came at the hands of the Richfield Wildcats, who ended the season 20-8 and a 7-1 region record which earned them the No. 2 seed.

Emery will hop back on the court this Saturday at home when they welcome in the Ben Lomond Scots (1-20, No. 21). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

A win against Ben Lomond would move them into the second round that starts on October 28 on the campus of Utah Valley University, where they would face No.5 seeded Delta. Back on Aug. 18 these two teams squared off with Delta taking a 3-0 win.  A loss to Ben Lomond would end Emery’s season and a loss to Delta would drop them into the consolation round where they best they could hope for would be a sixth place finish.

The weekend will conclude on October 29 when a new state champion will be crowned.
