Helen Arva Chidester Rudd, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 in Price, Utah with her beloved husband by her side.
Helen, the 3rd child born to James Orvill and Sarah Beth (Trinnaman) Chidester arrived on December 1, 1938. Helen spent her childhood and attended school in Price. She married Arvin E. Rudd on June 2, 1956. Several years later, Arvin and Helen participated in the eternal marriage ceremony at the Manti Utah Temple, sealing themselves to each other for all time and eternity.
As the mother of five, including one set of twins, Helen experienced the great joy of motherhood. She spent much of her young life teaching her children and later her many grandchildren some of the most important lessons a mother can teach. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints played an important role in Helen’s life. She spent many hours serving the Lord through her callings in the church. Some of her fondest memories came from serving five service missions: Martin’s Cove, WY, Phoenix, AZ, BYU Dairy, Elberta Dairy and Nebraska Ranch. She served her last mission working on one of her favorite callings in life, genealogy.
Helen loved quilting. She spent many happy hours sewing quilts for her children, grandchildren and others she loved. She made a quilt of the Colorado state flag for a lifelong resident of Colorado using the ribbons they had won over the course of many years. It was truly an amazing work of art. Genealogy played an important role in Helen’s life. She loved spending time researching and documenting her family’s history. Helen proudly carried on her mother’s passion for genealogy, finishing much of the work her mother began and adding volumes to her and Arvin’s family trees. Helen began oil painting as a child. She loved to spend her time creating beautiful landscapes on canvas and other mediums, like saw blades and frying pans. Most recently she started painting portraits of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Helen and Arvin made and cherished friendships wherever their travels took them. They went to Quartzsite in the winter and built strong bonds with those around them, enjoying many years of performing in skits, quilting, ATV riding and playing games with this incredible group of people. Helen made friends quickly and at the Rehab Center where she spent the final days of her life recovering from shoulder surgery. She developed friendships with everyone from the doctors and nurses to the residents who were all saddened by her sudden passing.
Helen is survived by her husband, Arvin; children, Tom (Eric Carcellero) Rudd, Murry (Diane) Rudd and Kelly (Gary) Oviatt; grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, James Orvill and Sarah Beth (Trinnaman) Chidester; sisters, Clyta Richins and Elizabeth Lake; brother, Nyron Chidester; son, Robert; and daughter, Roberta. One can only imagine the incredible reunion Helen and her children, Robert and Roberta, experienced and the joy they feel together again.
The family wishes to thank the residents and staff at Parkdale Health and Rehab for the care and friendship they showed our wife and mother during her brief stay.
