On Saturday, Emery volleyball got going in the 3A State Championships welcoming the Ben Lomond Scots to the Spartan Center. After three quick sets, the No. 12 Spartans moved on to play Friday at Utah Valley University, sending the Scots home.
The Spartans are 14-13 after the win and looking forward to continuing their play in the tournament. Finishing the regular season with the No.12 in the RPI, The Lady Spartans will face the Delta Rabbits next, this Friday at UVU.
Emery jumped out and got down to business early against Ben Lomond, taking the first set 25-6, not letting the Scots up for air the Spartans grabbed set two in the same fashion 25-11, and then finished it off in set three 25-10 taking the 3-0 victory to advance.
The Spartans will play the Delta Rabbits (13-8, No. 5). These two teams faced each other earlier in the season on August 18, with the Rabbits taking the 3-0 win (25-17, 25-23, 25-15) in Delta.
If Emery advances they will face the winner of the Grantsville (19-8, No. 4) and Manti (11-11, No. 13) match-up. Emery and Manti have met once before this season and Emery came away with the 3-0 win in Castle Dale (25-18, 25-22, 25-18). Emery has not faced Grantsville this season. A loss would drop Emery into the consolation round where they would face the losing team in the same match.
The 3A Championships will continue until Saturday when the 3A Championship match will take place.
