The Carbon County Food Bank is a wonderful organization within Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments that offers help to individuals/families that are in need in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties. Administration Assistant, LuEssa Averett took time to talk with Castle Country Radio about their services.
If you are in need of assistance from the food bank you can receive it quite easily, “Getting to the food bank, filling out paperwork, setting up those services for yourself we try to make incredibly easy. You’ll just need to come in, fill out an application, we need a photo I.D., proof of income, and proof of residency. So once those are handled, we can get you food that day.” An individual can be eligible for food bank services once a month.
Individuals who are in need of Food Bank services can go in anytime Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to fill out applications or to make donations. However, there are certain days and hours that are designated for food pick-up. “So our service hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Those days you can come in, and we’ll have lots of volunteers on hand, you can ask questions, get your food bank services for the month,” stated Averett. The food bank is located at 75 East 400 South in Price.
As far as items to donate to the food bank they can be any non-perishable items. “So we can’t take any damaged goods, any cans with dents in them, things like that. We just can’t serve that out to the population in the community. So things with dents we can’t take and anything that you’ve canned at home, we also can’t distribute to the community as well. However, when it comes to fresh produce, things you grow in your garden, fruit on your trees, things like that we can take as long as it’s fresh,” stated Averett. Items that are gluten or dairy free are also acceptable, as there are some individuals that need food bank services that may have dietary restrictions.
“So the three things that the Utah Food Bank asks for is, that you can give to help us out, give food obviously, give time, volunteer hours, we are always in need of volunteers, or give money. For every dollar that is donated to the food bank, it equates to $8.71 in goods and services that we can use to service the individuals in our community that need it the most,” explained Averett.
