The Utah section of the Professional Golfers of America named their All-State teams in all classes this week, and Carbon would have three of their golfers chosen. 2022 3A State Champion Bode Salas received his fourth consecutive first team nod, while Daron Garner earned second team praise and Kyler Clark was given an Honorable Mention.
Salas, a two-time State Champion (2020, 2022) made his fourth appearance on the first team roster. At the State Championships in Richfield earlier this month he would card a 71 in the first round which put him at one-under par for the day. He then came out on day two and fire a two-under 70 taking the win by two strokes over Keaton Anderson of Richfield on his home course.
This was Garner’s first All-State nod, earning second team recognition. Garner shot an eight-over 80 on the first day but came back on day two and shaved four strokes off, turning in a 76, which helped him earn a tie for 16th.
Clark is the only underclassmen for Carbon to get All-State honors, as the junior earned an Honorable Mention. On day one of the championships, three double bogeys earned him an opening round 80, or eight-over par. Day two, the doubles were gone and he got rid of two strokes from his first day score to post a 78, and land him in a tie for 23rd.
All three golfers contributed to Carbon High’s third place finish at the 3A State Championships.
The Professional Golfers Association of America Utah Section selects the top 30 golfers in each classification to the All-State Teams. The selections are based purely on performance on the course, placing the top 10 on the First Team, the next 10 on the Second Team and the final 10 on the Honorable Mention list.
