Price City each month sends a representative to Castle Country Radio to keep listeners posted or informed on various topics. This month brought in Price City Public Works Director, Miles Nelson who spoke on water conservation, leaf clean-up, snow removal and summer road projects.
Water conservation was again a huge issue this year and the citizens of Price did their part in helping to save water. “We did incredibly. This is the second year in a row that the citizens have stepped up and we averaged over 33 percent less usage of water the last two seasons. So we’re very excited about that. We still have a need for water, we’re obviously in a situation that the reservoir is low, Scofield. But we’ve done our part to do conservation effort,” stated Nelson. City officials were very pleased with how the water conservation efforts played out over the summer and hope that citizens will continue that work during the winter months.
Now with fall in the air there is the issue with cleaning up fall leaves on or around your property. “The next few weeks we’re going to be inundated with the leaves falling off the trees on the roadways and in people’s properties. Essentially, the responsibility for cleaning the leaves and removing the leaves is upon the residents in the city. The challenge is keeping the leaves out of the gutters and the roadway because if they get piled in the roadway, they become a road hazard; and also, if they’re in the gutters they become a flood hazard because we have rain storms that the leaves plug the storm drain system,” explained Nelson. Residents can get assistance with pickup/disposal of their bagged-up leaves by calling the Public Works Department at (435) 637-5010.
Winter is right around the corner so it is important that residents remember the city’s ordinances and snow removal procedures. “It’s important that people move their cars so that we can plow. The rule or the ordinance says it must be removed within 24 hours. Your vehicle can not be parked there after 24 hours after a snow storm. Most people are really good to move them sooner than that, we can get there and clean their streets, but that’s a very important aspect,” said Nelson. Residents should keep in mind to never push or pile the snow into the street as it poses potential hazards for traffic.
The city finished up several road projects around town most of which were resurfacing projects. “This last summer we were able to resurface quite a few roads in town that needed resurfacing. Some of those roads were in poor condition before we resurfaced them, some were actually in pretty good condition, we do both. We do the poor conditions roads to try and keep them together and give them more life. Its important practice to take care of your good roads too and make sure that they stay good and that adds 15 to 20 years to a road if we can keep a ware surface on it and add that extra surface,” explained Nelson. City officials really appreciate the patience the community showed road construction workers as they got those projects completed.
