The Carbon High Theatre Department will be hosting a production entitled Drowsy Chaperon on Nov. 15 through Nov. 21 at 7:00 pm at the Carbon High School Auditorium. Director, Mrs. Kayla Vernon stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about the play.

“The show itself is a party in the 1920s, as things were back then at least for the rich, that’s one of the lines in the play. But its about a man who is feeling sad and lonely so he decides to put on his favorite record, and it’s an old recording of a musical called the Drowsy Chaperone. Which there isn’t really, so its actually just a pretend, it’s a musical within a musical. But he walks us through the whole musical and he makes fun of it just as much as the audience wants to,” said Mrs. Vernon. Then the story takes a serious tone as it has the audience reflect on how we deal with loneliness and sadness, and what we do to find happiness when we are feeling that way.

The school held auditions in August as school began so they have been rehearsing for quite some time. “We’ll we been working on it since August, we ran auditions about the week after school started, and we’ve been working on music, and a lot of the choreography, and we’re just getting into a lot of the acting part of it. So we’ve been working on it since August. Mrs. Katelyn Epson has been our Music Director, she’s wonderful. Our Choreographer, we are taking parts of it from a young woman named Skyler Burgess, who I use to teach and TaylorAnn Dalpiaz is also helping with the choreography,” said Mrs. Vernon. The students seem to be getting all the music down as well as all the moves for the dances.
