USU Extension is hosting a Vape Prevention Parent/Guardian Education Dinner on Nov. 3 at 6:00 pm at the Cottonwood Elementary Gymnasium in Orangeville. The community is invited to attend this informational event. Dr. Ashley Yaugher was able to speak over the telephone to share all the details with Castle Country Radio listeners.
The southeastern portion of Utah is leading the state in youth e-cigarette/vaping use which is not something we want to be proud of. “Our whole project is called Be Epic, Escape the Vape. We are totally geared towards youth e-cigarette prevention and we just want to get the word out about these parent and guardian education events because it is such an issue in our area. Youth are getting these vapes as young as fifth grade and we are targeting parents from fifth to twelfth grade to start educating them and guardians, and teachers, and our community because it’s so harmful to our youth’s bodies,” explained Dr. Yaugher. This is a great opportunity for parents/guardians to learn about the dangers of e-cigarettes/vaping and what they look like as well.
This event is open to Emery County residents 18 years and older. The event includes a free meal for the first 50 registered participants and free swag bags will also be handed out to all attendees who have registered on Eventbrite. “We have so much great stuff to give people, all the parents/guardians that want to come. It’s free to sign-up, we just ask that people sign-up by the day before Nov. 2, that’s a Wednesday and then come to the event on Thursday evening. We have swag with lots of really cool stuff in it from our local partners and more information for parents/guardians of youth that come. Then in Emery County there’s going to be catering from R’s Pizza, so its going to be some delicious pizza over there too and I’m excited about that,” stated Dr. Yaugher. There will be pre and post surveys given to participants during the event.
