Helper City is currently looking for citizens to form a panel for the Water Conservation Board. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Mayor Lenise Peterman and Public Works Director, Mike Mastin to talk about all the details.
“The Water Conservation Board is an advisory board and what it does is it’s a group of people that talk and bring ideas of how to get people educated. Because a lot of times the citizens of the community aren’t really educated on how to use water wisely, then therefore you start getting into more and more drought. Water is a passion of mine, its always been a passion, and I’ve went to several trainings on how to educate people on using water wisely,” said Mastin. The group works together to come up with various ideas and plans to help the city conserve water throughout the year.
The plan is to have applicants apply by the end of November, so that a board of five to seven can be developed in December and ready to go to work in January. “I think we decided between five and seven. Mike will sit on the board as well because he’s the city liaison for that board, and can bring ideas and suggestions from the board to city council if they need to make decisions or vote on certain things. So Mike will be that Board Chair for Helper City,” explained Mayor Peterman. This is a great way to get involved with your community while giving advice and/or ideas from a citizen’s perspective.
If residents would like to be a part of the Water Conservation Board or any other city advisory board, they are urged to stop by the Helper City Office to apply. “We would like them to come down to city hall, pick up an application, complete the application, indicating what boards they are interested in serving on. Then we would appoint them in a council meeting for a certain term. From there it becomes the board getting together, as they see fit, you know is that once a month or is it twice a month during the summer months. But they would make those determinations with really an eye towards educating, and helping us do a better job managing our water resources, just all the way around,” stated Mayor Peterman. The city is looking for individuals who want to be involved with the strategies that the city is making for its citizens.
If there are any citizens interested in being a part of the Water Conservation Board or any other advisory boards, they are urged to get their application completed before the end of November in order to be considered in December. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact any member of the Helper City Council.
