Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Ferron City Mayor Adele Justice to talk about construction of a new store, grants and snow removal.
“We just finished Halloween and had fun trunk or treat with the kids, had a great turnout so things are just moving right along,” said Mayor Justice. The annual trunk or treat event was a huge success and the city appreciates those that participated in the event.
The city is excited to be having construction start on a brand-new store. “We are so excited; this has been a long time in the planning and it’s finally happening. We are seeing ground broke on a new dollar store, kind of a cross between Family Dollar and Dollar General. It should be open in the next few months; they’re breaking ground and starting a building on it right now. So it’s got people hopping and talking, and got some excitement going on,” said Mayor Justice. Residents are eager to have a store come in as it has been years since something new has been brought in to town.
Ferron recently received a grant that is going to be used to upgrade a portion of land at the fairgrounds to be used as the hub for outdoor adventures. “We’ve made plans to clean that spot up. We’re moving some playground equipment in there and we’ll have picnic tables, and a retaining wall that will kind of tier down. So its going to be a really nice little play area and park area. We will use that as our adventure hub for trails leading out of town, so when we have OHV people coming to ride our trails, they can actually camp in the park, and there will be a nice little playground there for them,” explained Mayor Justice. This will be a nice addition near the fairgrounds and for the city to bring in tourists to the area.
Snow is right around the corner so Ferron would like to remind its citizens about snow removal. “Citizens in Ferron are so awesome and they do such a good job at keeping their sidewalks clean. So we just encourage you to help your neighbors out if you can keep the sleet in front of your place clean from the snow so it can still be walked on by the kids as they’re going to school. We also ask our citizens when they know that snow is coming to try and not park on the street so when the snow plow goes around and he can get that snow removed in front of your yard and you’re not snowed in I guess,” stated Mayor Justice. If any residents have any questions or concerns about snow removal contact a member of the City Council
