The fall season is a great time to go hunting and fishing so the Division of Wildlife Resources took time to speak with Castle Country Radio to share information about sportsman permits and the upcoming mule deer viewing event.

So the deadline for the sportsman permits is coming up quick so you want to be sure to apply for one as soon as possible. “Really this is an excellent opportunity to apply for Utah’s most prized hunting permits. So essentially you get to pick your species and you’re putting in for a long season to go hunting for anything from elk to big horn sheep – you name it. Its really a trophy hunt that is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You’re putting in to be that one person in the state that gets to go hunting moose or mule deer or whatever you want and its just a really cool, exceptional opportunity and the deadline is just around the corner on Nov. 9,” stated Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott. Interested hunters can get on the DWR website at https://wildlife.utah.gov/ to obtain more information about this unique hunting lottery experience.

There is an upcoming Mule Deer Viewing event coming near our area that folks can signup for to observe these species. “Its out at the Nash Wash Wildlife Management area which is just to the east of Green River, Utah. So we have this wonderful area that’s protective habitat for Mule Deer. It’s the time of season when they’re going into rut so they’re all coming down from out of the mountains. This is a really remarkable location to see some pretty impressive bucks. This is a public viewing event, like you said, so its for people interested in getting up close and seeing these wonderful critters, taking pictures, great for photography,” explained Bott. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12 and is limited to the first 35 people who register. Individuals interested in signing up for this free viewing experience are urged to register on https://www.eventbrite.com/

The holidays are right around that corner and obtaining fishing licenses are a great gift idea. Its quite easy to obtain one for a gift as Bott explains, “We just need an address, you need obviously a name and we may ask for a driver’s license if you have one. But if you don’t have one then name and an address. So you can get if for your kids, you can sign up as their guardian or supervisor, and you can help purchase one of these. Its good for the full calendar year so its from the date that you purchase it, 365 days later is when you would have to renew it again.”
