Creekview Elementary was highlighted on this week’s Carbon School District weekly update so Second Grade Teacher, Elaine Taylor stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss what’s been taking place at the school.
The school was recently recognized as a top school in the state and was invited to attend a conference. “It was a fun surprise for us, we were considered one of the five, top five percent of academic performing schools in Utah, Title 1 Schools. So we went through an application process and only two schools were chosen and ours was one of those. So they’ve given us the opportunity to take a team of people to attend a week long conference and to learn and to grow in Indianapolis, so we’ll be headed there in February,” stated Mrs. Taylor. This just shows what a respectable institution Creekview Elementary because of its wonderful faculty and staff.
The school is offering its students an occasion to shop for their loved ones at Santa’s Workshop. “This is a great opportunity for the kids to look outside of themselves, to give, instead of to get. So PTA has provided this opportunity, they get to choose one person they are going to spend the holidays with to give a gift to. They get to shop in a little magazine to choose a gift for them and then their payment is to make a card, a thoughtful card, that they will take in order to get the gift from Santa’s Workshop,” explained Mrs. Taylor. The students are able to wrap their gifts before going home. This is a great way for them to feel and understand what it’s like to give to others.
The older grades have been busily preparing for their spelling bee that is coming up. “Well surprisingly that’s really fun for most students, they enjoy studying for hours, spelling words, but that is coming up soon. So kids are studying their lists and getting ready to compete in that in their grade level, it’s the upper grades, fourth and fifth grades, so that’s exciting,” said Mrs. Taylor. The students will compete at their grade level, then move on to school level, then on to regional and state competitions.
