The Dino boys basketball team traveled to Richfield for season preview tournament. Carbon would have a tough draw in the two games they played, up first was the 3A runner-up from last season Grantsville, falling to them 61-40. Up next was the 2A runner up Enterprise, against them The Dinos would fall 66-48.

The Dinos had been riding high starting the season at 4-0, with wins over Delta, Union, North Sanpete and a thriller over Juab last Wednesday. The Dinos only have four more games before they start their break on December 15.

Grantsville fell in the 3A State Championship last season to Layton Christian Academy, 48-46. So far this season, the Cowboys are sitting at 4-0 and have beaten their opponents by and average of 21 points per game.

Carbon struggled with the Grantsville defense right from the beginning only scoring eight points in the first quarter, and giving up 21 points to the Cowboys on the other end. In the second quarter the Dinos would find the bottom of the basket putting up 14 but would still go to the locker room down 34-22 at the half.

The third quarter is where Granstville pulled away putting up 20 points and holding the Dinos to just 11. Heading into the final quarter with the score 54-33, the Dinos could only put up seven and were handed their first loss of the season.

Braxton Stevenson led the way for the Dinos in this one with 13 points, Cole Cripps would put up 11 and Chet Anderson had seven in the loss.

Enterprise made it to the championship round in 2A last year falling to San Juan, 45-44. Sitting at 2-1 this year, they are being led by junior Brady Crouch who has averaged 16 points per game early in the season.

In their game on Saturday with the Wolves, the Dinos started slowly once again, with the score 6-0, Braxton Stevenson would put the first points on the board at the 6:41 mark with a runner in the middle. Enterprise would quickly answer back and in the blink of an eye Carbon was down 15-5, the Wolves would push the score to 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. Carrying the momentum into the the second, Enterprise would extend the lead to 32-18 at halftime.

In the third, the Dinos would get on the board when Mason Vasquez would find a cutting Stevenson under the basket for two of his eight points in the game. Enterprise would push their lead in the quarter to 15 points, 45-30 and in the final quarter both teams would play it pretty close with Enterprise putting up another 21 points and the Dinos would have their best offensive quarter scoring 18 as the Wolves took the 66-48 win.

Zeke Wilson, led the Dinos in this one with 15, Anderson added seven and Ryker Butler six in the loss.
