It was time once again to sit down with Director of Student Services, Kevin Hurst to discuss leadership applications, recognition of a student welder and upcoming basketball games.

It’s time to think about applying for Leadership Application if you are interested in student government.  “We would love to talk about leadership applications. So every year we have a bunch of leadership scholarships and always looking for qualified, really students to come in and fill our leadership teams. We’re looking for prospective students who are joining us for the first time, or continuing students. But the application is now open, and anybody interested in information about that can contact me kevin.hurst@usu.edu or my phone number there at the office is (435) 613-5217. I would love to tell them all about our leadership teams and the application process, and help them out if they are interested,” explained Hurst. The types of leadership scholarships available are Aggies Elevated Peer Mentor, Ambassador, Campus Recreation Leadership, Peer Mentors, Resident Advisors and USU Student Association. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is March 10, 2023.

Recently a student in the welding program returned from a national competition where he did really well in representing the USU Eastern Campus. “I really want to highlight a student of ours, it’s a student success, Jordan Packer represented the United States at the Worlds Skills Welding Competition. He was the sole representative of the United States of the competition and did very well, he came away with a bronze medal. If you talk to Jordan he might be a little disappointed in that because he was one percent short in points from getting the gold medal, but for me that’s a huge accomplishment. His training and a lot of his knowledge and skills came from our welding program, so I’d say that’s a shining example of some of the skills, and training we provide,” stated Hurst. This is a good representation of how strong the welding program is at USU Eastern.

The basketball season is in full swing with many games coming up for the women’s and men’s teams. “Basketball is in full swing, so just want to highlight a couple of upcoming games, so the community is aware. So we have couple of big games coming in, couple of our conference rivals and Salt Lake Community College so the men’s and women’s play Salt Lake Community College on Dec. 10. The women tip off at 1:00 pm, and the men tip off at 3:00 pm. Then on Dec. 14 we play Snow College here on our home court, and the women they tip off at 5:00 pm, and the men at 7:00 pm so come out and support the Eagles,” said Hurst. On Dec. 10 if you bring a gentle used stuffed toy to the game admission is free, otherwise tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 per person.
