For the second time in three years, the Carbon Dinos have started the season 5-0. Carbon took down the Grantsville Cowboys, 51-43, Tuesday night.

The Tuesday-night matchup featured two undefeated powerhouses in the 3A classification. Carbon took an early 14-5 lead after the first quarter to set the tone for the rest of the game.

The second quarter gave testament to the close battle fans expected between these two teams. Grantsville started the quarter hot and outscored the Lady Dinos 15-13. Thanks to a large Carbon lead after the first eight minutes, the Lady Dinos entered the halftime break with a 27-20 lead.

Grantsville did their best to keep the game close during the third quarter. A lack of scoring and a large amount of turnovers allowed the Cowboys to close the deficit to just three points before the final quarter.

Carbon overcame the sluggish second-half start to outscore the Cowboys 17-12 in the final quarter and take a 51-43 victory. With the win, the Lady Dinos moved to 5-0, one of just three 3A teams without a loss this season.

Madison Orth led the Lady Dinos with 21 points on 9-13 shooting. Orth also had eight rebounds and two blocks to anchor the Dinos defense. Amiah Timothy also recorded 10 points to finish with double digits. Haley Garish finished one point away from a double-double, recording nine points and eleven rebounds.

The Lady Dinos will next take the court on Thursday, Dec. 8 against the Eaglecrest Raptors from Centennial, Colorado. Eaglecrest is 2-3 on the season. The game is part of a three-day tournament in Colorado. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
