The Emery girls basketball team was on the road to the basin once again on Tuesday night to face the Union Cougars in Roosevelt. The Spartans spent last weekend in Vernal taking part in the Shannon Johnson Cancer Classic. In the meeting with the Cougars, Emery jumped out in the first half putting almost 40 on the board and holding Union to a low scoring affair as the Spartans came away with the 62-38 win.

Emery is sitting at 4-3 this season and still have some tough games left on the pre-season portion of their schedule. Between now and their first region contest against Canyon View on January 10, the Spartans will face teams like South Sevier and North Sanpete, and other schools like East, Provo, Pine View and Corner Canyon that they are less familiar with.

Emery is fairly familiar with Union, last year on December 30, the two locked up in Castle Dale, with the Cougars leaving the Spartan Center 53-51.

Perhaps using that two point loss as motivation the Spartans jumped out to a quick lead 38-21 at the end of the first half. In the second half, Emery kept their foot on the gas rattling off another 24 points and cruising to a 24 point win.

Aliya Lester kept up her pace this season scoring 15 in the game with four steals and two assists. Brielle Rowley added 13 and Alexia Mortensen dropped in 12. Kali Jensen grabbed nine boards in the win for the Spartans.

Up next Emery will welcome South Sevier to the Spartan Center on Thursday. Game time is set for 7.
