The Pinnacle Panther boys basketball team started out rattling off seven straight wins, and with that seventh victory they equaled their win total from last season. Tuesday night they were in Tintic to face the Miners and were handed their second straight loss, 46-43.
The Panthers spent last weekend taking part in the 1A Preview in Richfield where they played two games in as many days. Up first was a win over Intermountain Catholic 50-40. They suffered their first loss the next day when they dropped the game with Bryce Valley.
The contest with Tintic was competitive in the first half as the Panthers actually held the lead at the end of one, 16-12. In fact, Pinnacle carried a 30-25 lead into the halftime.
The second half looked like a different game, as the Panthers came out and only put up eight points in the quarter and saw their lead dwindle to just one. In the final quarter, Pinnacle could only manage five points and allowed Tintic back into the game taking the lead and the win 46-43.
Jonathan Kessler led the way for the Panthers with 13. Cole Barton had seven and Ryker Howell six in the loss.
Starting Thursday, Pinnacle will host the Winter Classic with team from 1A to 3A participating. Game will be played at Pinnacle in both gyms Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as the BDAC on the campus of USU Eastern.
The boys will take to the floor in their first contest at 8:15 on Friday when they face Milford in the new gym.
