Talon Tuttle knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer with 1:19 remaining in regulation as the Emery Spartans rallied past the North Sanpete Hawks 65-57 Wednesday night in Mount Pleasant.

Trailing throughout the fourth quarter the Spartans took control with a series of big shots late. Faced with a six-point deficit with under three minutes to play, Emery scored the game’s final 14 points to silence the home crowd and improve to 6-1 on the season.

“This is a great win and a confidence builder,” said head coach Dave Justice. “We’ve talked about this all week leading up to this game. We knew it was going to be a tough environment and they are a very physical team.”

Four different Emery players registered double digits in points for the most balanced offensive performance of the season.

Wade Stilson stuffed the stat sheet as he finished with a team-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks. Luke Justice provided the perfect backcourt compliment as he scored 15 points.

Easton Nielson produced his biggest scoring output of the season with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Moments before Tuttle knocked down the go-ahead shot, Nielson drained a crucial three-point knock from the same spot.

“I’ve been putting in the work and I think with practice comes confidence,” said Nielson following the win. “It felt great hitting that shot. The whole place went quiet, and you know at home the whole place would go nuts. It’s a great feeling.”

Senior Brett Rasmussen set the tone on both sides of the floor finishing with 10 rebounds, six points and five blocks. A constant distraction inside the paint, the Hawks struggled to counter Rasmussen’s presence in his most complete game of the season.

“Last year we lost right at the end and this game tonight, we really wanted revenge,” Rasmussen said. “We are playing great defense and that allows us to move the ball up the floor fast and that helps get us going, like it did tonight.”

North Sanpete senior Ty Allan scored a game-high 22 points, doing most of his damage in the first half, as he knocked down five shots from beyond the arc. Kade Staker scored 15 points and Keegan Strickland notched seven before fouling out.

Wednesday’s victory marks the second three game winning streak of the season for the Spartans. With two games left before Christmas break, Emery will return home to face Uintah on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
