Kali Jensen’s 15 points and three assists were just part of the team effort put out by the Lady Spartans on Thursday night in Mount Pleasant as they defeated the North Sanpete Hawks 58-42.

Both teams came out in the first quarter not able to set up their offense or defense, but things finally started to calm, down for Emery as they put together a 5-2 run to close out the quarter as North Sanpete held just a two point lead 9-7.

Tied at 11 with 6:45 left in the second quarter the two teams would go back-and-forth trading baskets. The Hawks would pull away towards the end of the quarter but the Spartans would battle back cutting North Sanpete’s lead to 22-21 at halftime.

The Hawks must have woken a sleeping giant, because Emery came out in the third quarter on a mission, not only did they score 19 they held North Sanpete to just six points in the quarter, taking a comfortable 40-28 lead into quarter four.

The Hawks still had a little fight in them as they put together 14 points in the final quarter, but the Lady Spartans put up 18 securing the win 58-42.

To go along with Jensen’s 15, Karleigh Stilson had 10 and four rebounds, while Alexia Mortensen added another 10 and seven boards. Katelyn Nielson and Makalia Peacock both had four assists in the win.

The Lady Spartans had a contest scheduled for Friday at the Spartan Center against East High, that game has been cancelled .

Emery will be on the road to face Provo on December 20. They will be back on their home floor on December 30 when they will welcome Pine View to the Spartan Center.

Game time is set for 5 p.m..
