It’s time for another update from Carbon School District and this week’s spotlight shines on Wellington Elementary. Principal Paulie Vogrinec stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about what students have been doing to prepare for the Christmas break.

“They’ve been pretty excited about Christmas break and being off just as much as my teachers are. They’ve been working really, really hard. You know we had our mid-year testing, trying to get all that finished so that we’re ready to the road running when we come back in January. But the kids did really well, we saw a lot of growth, a lot of students were so excited to come and get all their prizes for doing well on their testing. So it was really great to see all the hard work we put in for the first half of the year,” said Principal Vogrinec. The students and faculty were happy to get the testing out of the way before all the fun began for the Christmas festivities at the school.

The kindergarten students had a full schedule of Christmas events takes place. “Our kindergarten does a lot of fun things, so they’ve had Christmas around the world, so they’ve gone to different countries and experienced different things. We’ve had the Polar Express, Auto Farm brought their trains so the kids could ride in the train like they’re going to Polar Express. Kindergarten of course does their pajama day, so it kind of went well with the Polar Express train that they brought,” said Principal Vogrinec. As for the entire school, it’s become a tradition for each grade to learn a Christmas carol so that they can perform it in front of the school with the school’s music teacher.

As the students go on break till Jan. 3 and they will return ready to work hard as there will only be one week left of the second quarter to finish. “January is kind of, you know, there’s only two days off in January with some training that the teachers will have, that they’re receiving and one is a holiday. So really, it’s just getting back in the grove and picking up looking at all of our data and hitting the road running with interventions and where we’re at. You know we do have an assembly; Ballet West is going to come down so its kind of nice to get some assemblies coming back into the building. So we’re excited to experience that we haven’t had them for a couple of years,” stated Principal Vogrinec.
