The Green River basketball teams have been battling through the first half of their seasons. The boys had a record of 2-5 and the girls hadn’t earned a victory in any of their six contests. At the Panther Winter Classic hosted by Pinnacle High School, the Lady Pirates earned their first victory and the boys went undefeated going a perfect 4-0.

Green River started out quietly scoring just eight points in the first half, and trailing the Tigers 29-8.

Half number two was more of the same, with Tabiona pushing their way to a 56-30 win.

Abigail Erwin scored 26 while Jordynne Gringerich added four.

Merit Prep Academy was the second game of the weekend and Green River would be handed another loss in a close one, 36-31.

In the game with Rockwell, the Lady Pirates would log their first win of the season 47-31.

Erwin would once again would come up big with 25 and Gringerich added 14 in the big win for Green River.

The final game of the weekend for the Lady Pirates against Escalante. Green River fell once again in another close one 48-44.

The boys had only earned two wins this season as the entered play in the tournament and their first game was against Diamond Ranch Academy.

Luis Hernandez scored 19 in the 64 -59 win for the Pirates. Bridjer Meadows had 13 and Ryker Meadows scored 11.

In game two, they would face Dugway. Green River did exactly what they had to do to secure the 44 point win 64-20.

Before they could even turn around Dugway found themselves in a big hole 36-13 at the end of the first half.

The Pirates kept their foot on the gas, as Raul Mendoza scored 22, Hernandez had 12 and Joe Vollmer had 10.

Merit Prep Academy was the next one up for the Pirates and with two wins under their belt already, they weren’t about to let Merit stand in the way of another win, and they did just that, 72-41.

Hernandez had 17, Mendoza added 13 in this one and Ryker and Bridjer Meadows each scored 12.

In the final game of the tournament the Pirates would face Escalante. And Hernandez would have a huge game scoring 32 points in Green River’s 58-31 win.

Ryker Meadows scored 10 while Bridger Meadows and Vollmer had six each.
