The Carbon Lady Dinos traveled to Richfield to play in a preseason tournament at the Sevier Valley Center over the recent weekend. Carbon dominated their two games against Ogden High School and Layton Christian Academy.

The battle against Ogden took place Friday night and saw the Lady Dinos put on a defensive clinic against the Tigers. Carbon did not allow double digit points, defensively, in any of the four quarters played, winning 57-22.

The Lady Dinos got hot early with a 22-4 advantage after the first quarter. Kennedy Williams and Madison Orth led the way as Carbon took an early lead and never looked back.
Carbon continued its dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 16-7 in the second period and took a 38-11 lead into the half.

Defense continued to stay strong for the Lady Dinos in the third quarter as Ogden managed to score just three points in the quarter. Carbon scored 13 in the period to close the door on Ogden, 51-14.

Carbon struggled to score in the fourth quarter, scoring just six points, as Ogden managed to outscore the Lady Dinos 8-6. The Dinos’ big lead held strong as Carbon walked away with a win on the first day of the tournament.

Kennedy Williams led the Dinos with 16 points and Madison Orth added 12 of her own as eight different Dinos found the bottom of the net.

Day two brought a tough opponent for the Dinos as Layton Christian Academy opened the game with a 15-7 lead after the first quarter.

Carbon responded well in the second quarter after putting up 21 points. The Carbon defense stepped up as well, in the second period, after holding LCA to just 10 points. Carbon entered the halftime break with a 28-25 lead.

The third quarter was a back and forth battle as both teams scored 13 points to keep Carbon’s lead at three points, 41-38.

The Dinos played their best fourth quarter of the season, outscoring LCA 14-11 in the final eight minutes to pick up the six-point win, 55-49.

Madison Orth scored 23 points to lead the Lady Dinos. Orth was the lone Dinos to score in double figures as eight Dinos contributed to the 55 points.

Next up for the Lady Dinos is a non-region matchup with the Manti Templars. Carbon will travel to Manti today, Monday Dec. 19, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
