Over 15 teams from across the state were in Price for the Panther Winter Classic that took place at Pinnacle High School and the BDAC over three days.

Teams like Escalante, Green River, Dugway and Rockwell along with other schools from 1A and 3A joined up play in the three days leading into the holiday break.

The Pinnacle boys team opened play by facing the Milford Tigers.

Milford jumped out quickly on the Panthers 17-8 after the first quarter, and Pinnacle just couldn’t recover falling 60-28.

Cole Barton scored 11 and Brody Howell scored 10 in the loss.

Game two, put Pinnacle on the court with the Escalante Moquis.

The contest with Escalante was more to Pinnacle’s liking as they were the aggressors taking a 30-23 lead into halftime. The Panthers held on for the 49-37 win.

Jonathn Kessler came up with 15 while Joey Howell and Ryker Howel each scored 11 in the win.

The Tabiona Tigers were ready to roll in the third game for the Panthers. Tabiona is always a tough out no matter who plays them.

The Tigers let the Panthers know of their intentions right out of the gate coming out and scoring 17 in the first quarter and holding Pinnacle to 14 points in the first half.

In the second half, Tabiona held them to single digit scoring in both quarters and defeated Pinnacle by 29 points, 64-25.

Barton had 10 and Brody Howell six.

In the final game Pinnacle faced Telos. The game with the Titans was the perfect way for Pinnacle to close out the weekend, jumping out early and playing four full quarters giving the their largest offensive output of the tournament, 70-36.

The Pinnacle boys ended the tournament 2-2 and moved their overall record to 9-4. They head back to the court against Piute on the road January 6, and will be back home on January 18 to take on Green River.

The Lady Panthers started their Winter Classic taking on the Milford Tigers in game one.

The first half started quietly for both squads with the Tigers taking a seven point lead into halftime.

Milford would build an impressive lead in the second half holding the Panthers to just eleven second half points. The Tigers pushed the lead and took a 21 point victory 42-21.

Azure Jewkes scored nine in the contest and Heather Kerr had seven.

In the next game with Rockwell, the Panthers battled to within five 20-15, by halftime. Another second half, found Pinnacle have issues scoring, putting up seven in the third quarter and just four in the fourth, falling to Rockwell 44-26.

Kerr scored 12 and Persephone Jones had five.

The third game brought on the Tabiona Tigers, and the Panthers had issues from beginning to end.

Pinnacle was held scoreless in the first quarter, and had just four points in the first half. The Tigers went into the half with a 20 point lead 24-4.

The second half , Pinnacle still struggled to find offense with a six point output, as Tabiona took the game, 51-10.

Jewkes scored six in the outing.

The final game of the tournament was against Real Salt Lake Academy. A slow start would set the tone for the Lady Panthers fourth loss of the tournament, taking the 39-30 loss.

Jewkes scored 11, Kerr 10 and Jones six in the game.

Pinnacle will be back on the floor Tuesday when they take on Utah Military Academy Camp Williams.

They will be back on the road after the first of the year, and will be home again January 18, when they face Green River.
