The Utah Make A Wish program hosted a fundraising event in Emery County on Dec. 10 to help raise funds for their program. Ambassador, Judi Bishop spoke over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to share all the details.
Miss Emery Teen, Haivyn Pitchforth help organize a Christmas Tree opportunity drawing where tickets were sold for $5.00 each. “We put together this awesome, awesome fundraiser. We did two Christmas trees, one at Main Street Market in Ferron and Hometown Market in Huntington. Our two wonderful organizations Hometown and Main Street they donated two $25.00 gift certificates from their stores. So we had $100.00 from each store donated there. Plus, then we had our drawing,” explained Bishop. On top of selling tickets, Miss Emery Teen took it upon herself to sell hot chocolate on the day of the drawing to help earn more funds for the Make A Wish foundation.
“We very happily had our drawing on Saturday and had Judd Begley, and Lisa Scovill were our tree winners. Hometown Market winners for their $25.00 certificates were Sabrina Ungerman and Melissa Erickson. Main Street was Cindy Brewer and Gayle Ewell. I’m very happy to say we raised $800.00,” said Bishop. This was a great event to help raise funds for a local Make A Wish Honoree, Brynlee Pitchforth. This event was a great way to rally around Brynlee.
The Utah Make A Wish program benefits sick children in the state. “We get referrals for kids that have non-threatening life diseases, also life-threatening diseases and we get those referrals from Primary Children’s Hospital, from a family member, from a family friend, they refer it too. Then we have a group of people that sit down and make a list of all these kids that we’ve been given the name to. Right now, we’re working on 238 children with diseases in the state of Utah that are wishing for wishes,” explained Bishop.
