2022 is coming to an end and with it comes the first UHSAA RPI rankings of the season. The rankings for 3A and 1A have been released ahead of the beginning of 2023.

The Emery Spartans’ 7-1 start has earned them the No. 3 ranking in the RPI with an overall rating of 0.673. Grantsville claims the top 3A spot with an overall rating of 0.701. The lone Spartan blemish came in a seven-point loss to the South Summit Wildcats. A key win over 5A Uintah boosted the Spartans to the No. 3 spot in the 3A classification. Four more non-region games await the Spartans, including a clash with Enterprise at Vivint Smart Home Arena on Jan. 4, before the start of Region 12 play. Emery will open region play on Jan. 11 on the road against the No. 5 ranked Richfield Wildcats.

Carbon High School started the season 4-0, but after five-straight losses, the Dinos find themselves in the No. 11 slot of the 3A RPI rankings. A thrilling one-point win over the Juab Wasps highlights a season full of ups-and-downs for the Dinos. With an overall rating of 0.530 places the Dinos just 0.012 points out of a No. 9 ranking. Carbon will play three non-region games after the New Year before a region opener against the No. 18 Grand County Red Devils.

Pinnacle’s season opened with the first 7-0 start in school history. Since the historic start, the Panthers have won just two of their last six games to place them as the No. 11 team in the 1A classification RPI rankings. A composite ranking of 0.519 is the highest in school history since the beginning of the RPI system. The Panthers will enter 2023 as the highest ranked Region 23 team and currently sit atop the region standings. Pinnacle will open region play against the Green River Pirates on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at home.

A 6-5 start to the 2022-2023 Green River season has the Pirates sitting in second place in Region 23, and at No. 17 in the 1A RPI rankings. Two wins over Merit Prep Academy and one over Escalante anchor a strong 2022 portion of the Pirate schedule. Region play for the Pirates will begin on Friday, Jan. 6 against Whitehorse.
