Castle Country Radio had an opportunity to sit down with Price City Mayor Mike Kourianos to reflect on the year 2022. He spoke on the downtown mural, the indoor pool, and holiday wishes for the community.
“A lot of people have talked about the mural but I can’t say enough about the Association of Governments and Bookcliff Sales, they brought that together. Then we found the grant money, we didn’t use a dime of citizen’s money to put that mural on. But here’s a local business saying I want to make a difference in our community. Also, I don’t think a lot of people realize those lights that are on the mural, that business owner is paying for those lights to have the mural lit 24/7. So that’s where people are coming together saying I want to give back to the community,” said Mayor Kourianos. This was a huge success for the city of Price as the mural will be a backdrop for the Farmer’s Market, various future festivals and city events. There are other murals that are being proposed to the city that will show the rich history our community has.
The indoor pool is in the middle of renovations that are sure to better accommodate community members. The renovations are due to a partnership with the Carbon School District, as the pool houses the Carbon High Swim Team. “I took a staff member, Bret Cammans and myself, we went to the Board of Education, first we went to Lance Hatch, we have a problem, there’s a serious problem. Then we went to the board to get funding so Price City had $600,000.00 saved up to address that issue but it wasn’t building fast enough. So we went to the school board, and with their support of the other $600,000.00 now we have a pool project. I don’t know if the community, for those that go to the pool, you know they started that project, the scaffolding was awesome so the workers could redo that ceiling in that indoor pool, it was phenomenal. That’s what we’re doing to make that indoor pool attractive,” stated Mayor Kourianos. The renovations will better help sell our community at future swimming events as a prime attraction.
The mayor finished his interview by acknowledging those less fortunate in our community. “I would just like to say thank you to our community – Merry Christmas. With your prayers reach out to those in need keep those things going. Keep the fire burning within your heart for those members in our community – Carbon, Emery County,” said Mayor Kourianos.
