It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio about the city’s ice-skating rink and snow removal.

The city has been working on constructing an ice-skating rink for the city’s families to enjoy. “We have our ice-skating rink set up now, soon as it gets frozen over people can start using it. We’re excited to provide that for the citizens. Its at a little different place this year, I haven’t gone down to look, but they said they were going to set it up kind of by the church but on the park side,” said Mayor Winn. Once it has frozen over the city will start working on it to smooth it over so that the public can use it.

City Officials are also working on getting some lights set up at the rink so that it can be used during the evening hours. “They are working on getting some lights so that we can, anybody can come during the evening time. I think they might even have some above the ground fire pit things so that you might be able to start a little fire so you can keep warm,” explained Mayor Winn.  There are new signs that have been posted to remind citizens to be careful when using the facility.

Although the city doesn’t have a place to rent skates there are other options available for residents to rent skates. “Seems like we had lots of people going last year. There’s different places you can rent them from either Rec Department or even over here at Carbon Rec I know rents them. It’s a good, good deal for us,” said Mayor Winn. You can call Emery County Rec at (435) 381-3505 or Carbon Rec at (435) 636-3702.

With winter months now approaching there will be winter storms coming through the area and its important that residents know about snow removal procedures. “Once the snow gets down on the roads its easiest for us to clean them off if people can get their cars off the roads and trailers off the road so the snow plows don’t have to go around them. It just makes it better for the snow plower, and the county does it for us as a favor so its on Main Street and Center Street so its good to get those out of the way so they can run the big plows through,” said Mayor Winn. If any residents have any questions about the snow removal procedures may contact any member of the City Council or Town Hall.
