The USU Extension Emery County is hosting a 4-H Record Keeping for Junior Livestock Participants Workshop on Friday, Jan. 13 2023 at 2:00 pm. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with USU Extension’s Rowe Zwahlen to get all the details.

“The 4-H Portfolios they’ve done in the past have changed a little bit in the past couple of years. We’re encouraging them to enter a resumé and a cover letter instead, which hopefully I think will be a great life skill for the participants to have, you know knowing how to write a resumé. But that doesn’t mean that just because its very short that you shouldn’t keep any records,” stated Zwahlen. It’s always very important for livestock producers to keep detailed records so that they can produce them at the stock shows.

There is a lot of information that will be covered during the workshop that is sure to assist in keeping records more accurately.  “We’re going to talk about how to write a good resumé but there’s a lot of information that you need in order to do that. So we’re going to be talking a little bit about your animal projects, and what kinds of records you might need to keep. You know how much you are feeding them, how much you paid, and immunization records, you know how much the animals are gaining in weigh or growing, and all of those things that really need to be recorded,” explained Zwahlen. The records will help producers to make good decisions when it comes to their animals.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Friday, Jan. 13 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Emery County Administration Building at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. Interested individuals can easily register by calling the USU Extension Emery County Office. “This one is no charge. We’re welcome for any 4-H, FFA, junior livestock producers of any kind are welcome. You know really any other youth are welcome to come visit with us as well. Even if you aren’t sure you’re going to be doing a livestock project yet, you’re welcome to come,” said Zwahlen. This workshop will be very informative and can make record keeping become a breeze.
