
One of the best teams in the 3A classification is the Carbon Lady Dinos. Carbon currently sits at 9-3 overall, their only three losses coming from a tournament in Colorado. The 9-3 record puts Carbon in the No. 4 slot of the 3A RPI rankings.
The Lady Dinos opened the season with a road contest against the American Leadership Eagles. Madison Orth finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and five steals in a dominant 46-17 Lady Dino win. Tatum Tanner contributed eight points, three rebounds and a block in the matchup.
Next on the schedule was another road game against the Orem Tigers. Haley Garrish recorded a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, as Carbon continued their domination in a 40-26 win. Tatum Tanner finished with 12 points and four rebounds.
Carbon played their home opener on Nov. 29 against the Cedar Reds. The Lady Dinos controlled the game from start to finish in a 58-24 win. Madison Orth tallied 17 points, five rebounds and three steals. Amiah Timothy produced eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
Summit Academy was the next team to fall victim to the Dinos’ win streak. Carbon played another complete game, winning 52-36. Amiah Timothy led the Lady Dinos with 14 points and nine rebounds, just short of a double-double. Madison Orth did her part as well with a double-double of her own, 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Early December featured a matchup with current No. 1 Grantsville. Madison Orth had a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds in a 51-43 victory over the Cowboys. Haley Garrish finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, a point shy of a double-double.
The Lady Dinos took a trip to Colorado to participate in a tournament with teams from Colorado. Eaglecrest High School, from Colorado, was the first opponent Carbon faced. Tatum Tanner’s 11 points and seven points from Amiah Timothy were not enough as the Dinos fell, for the first time this season, 43-81.
Grand Junction Central was next on the schedule for the Lady Dinos. Tatum Tanner led the Dinos in scoring for the second-straight game after a 12 point performance. Madison Orth had a solid statline of eight points and six rebounds. The Dinos, however, fell 36-45.
Carbon’s third-straight loss came at the hands of Fruita Monument, 42-54. Amiah Timothy was the lone Dino to finish in double digits with 10 points. Madison Orth recorded another nine points and five rebounds.
The Lady Dinos returned home for a non-region matchup against the North Sanpete Hawks. Eight different Dinos found the bottom of the net in a 60-32 win. Amiah Timothy finished with 10 points, six assists and four rebounds to lead the Lady Dinos back into the win column. Jacie Jensen scored a season-high 10 points.
A second tournament awaited the Lady Dinos, this time, a trip to Richfield. Ogden was the first team to face the Lady Dinos. Kennedy Williams scored 16 points on 4-5 shooting from three-point range. Williams also anchored a stout Dino defense with six steals. Madison Orth totaled 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in the 57-22 Dino win.
The Layton Christian Eagles put up a good fight against the Lady Dinos, but Madison Orth’s 23-point, 12 rebound double-double propelled Carbon to a 55-49 victory. Amiah Timothy posted another solid game with eight points, six assists and five rebounds.
A trip to play the Manti Templars rounded out the 2022 calendar year for the Lady Dinos. Madison Orth’s second-straight double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds pushed Carbon to a 50-22 dominating win. Haley Garrish’s six offensive rebounds anchored an all-around dominant Carbon performance.
Madison Orth is the Lady Dino’s leading scorer with an average of 12.1 points per game. Haley Garrish helps out with eight points per contest. Orth also leads Carbon with 7.5 rebounds per game. Haley Garrish, again, is second in rebounds with 5.8 per game. Kennedy Williams leads the Lady Dinos offense with 4.1 assists per game. Amiah Timothy rounds out her game with 3.7 assists per contest of her own.
Carbon will be back on the court at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 3. The Lady Dinos will take a trip to Union to take on the 0-11 Lady Cougars.
