quick-and-easy-4

The USU Extension Carbon County is hosting a course to help folks prepare for family dinners so they are hosting a Quick & Easy Cooking: What’s for Dinner? segment on Jan. 18. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Assistant Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences, Christina Pay to get all the details.

“We’re going to share some ideas for quick and easy meals, like we always do, but this will focus more on meals that will bring the family together. Recipes that kids will like, and your family will love. Hopefully, maybe you can put in your calendar of recipes, however, you do it, so that you can just pull them out and have them available,” said Pay. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn delicious recipes your family will come to love.

This event will bring the family together again for evening dinners after all the holiday hoopla. “Trying to get everybody back to the dinner table is really tough. But research shows that its so, so important for the family, for the kids, for the parents also, to gather together at dinner time. Not only does it model good food behavior, and good nutrition but it can curtail weight struggles in adulthood, it improves communication skills between parents and children,” said Pay. It also gives the entire family a sense of stability, establishes routines and connectedness, along with benefits in mental and physical health.

Registration is currently open for the Quick & Easy Cooking: What’s for Dinner? class. “Well, if you want to come in person, it’s Jan. 18 at 7:00 pm at the USU Extension Office in Carbon County. You can just come but we prefer that you register on https://www.eventbrite.com/ so that we know how many will be there. Because it is a taste testing class, you will get to taste what we prepare and we need to have a number for that. Or you can watch on YouTube like I said earlier, on our YouTube channel which is Quick & Easy Cooking – USU Extension Quick & Easy Cooking on YouTube if you’ll just search that you should be able to find that,” said Pay. If you are unable to register on https://www.eventbrite.com/ you can call the USU Extension Office at (435) 636-3233 to register too.
