Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Michael Johnson, age 75, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023.

He was born November 17, 1947, to Leo Phersing and Virginia Louise Chauncey Johnson in Monrovia, California. As he got older, he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada where he enjoyed numerous jobs such as Casino floor boss and detailed concrete work, which led him to meet the love of his life, Jana McFarland. Mike and Jana were married on February 14, 1988, in the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were devoted to each other for 25 years and gave birth to their only child and light of their life, Alyse Raye, on September 29, 1988.

In 1991, Mike, Jana, and Alyse all moved to East Carbon, Utah. Here, after a stint as a talented general contractor, Mike opened his dream restaurant, Mike’s Sandwich Shop where he poured his heart into serving the community the absolute best homemade subs, pizza, and ice cream you had ever tasted. After 12 dedicated years of serving yummy food and great company, it was time to close up shop and move on to working for the family business, AAA Canvas and Tarp. Later, in 2017 and after 46 years of hard work, Mike hung up his hat and retired for good.

In the years since Mike’s retirement, he has spent his days babysitting his grandsons Treyden and Drew. Together, they would watch cartoons, build construction projects out of cardboard and share many laughs. They were best buds.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Alyse (Andrew) of Price, Utah, Gina (Rich) Berkley of Nevada; son, Mike (Stephanie) Johnson of Nevada; grandkids, Treyden, Brody, Drew, Harli, and Z; three great-grandkids; sisters, Cindy (Kelly) Neilson of Arizona, Lois (Paul) Osuch of Nevada; sister-in-Law, Cheryl (Todd) McFarland of Utah; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jana; parents, Leo and Ginny Johnson; brothers-in-law, Todd and Greg McFarland; sisters-in-law, Tara Ruane and Gema Riley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Floyd and Eunice McFarland; and special niece, Amanda McFarland.

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Symbii Home Health and Hospice, especially Jennifer, Kara, Candice, and Michaela.
