Price City made it through another holiday season and they hope that everyone in the community enjoyed their holidays too. Community Director, Nick Tatton came into Castle Country Radio to talk about what the city has planned for 2023.
“One of the things right now, is Price City, we do a zoning review, zoning update, every year and right now is the annual cycle for that ordinance review and update and tweaks that the laws have changed and the legislature has made. So there’s a pretty good system of reviewing and updating and that happens in a lot of things. There’s capital planning cycles and things like that. So it’s a busy time of year and it’s a good time of year to remind everyone to plan your year out well and well-made plans, lead to fewer problems,” stated Tatton. The city reviews different departments’ projects and gets a feel on what is planned for the new year.
There is a new initiative called the Rural Utah Energy Ecosystem that is made of different entities, businesses and individuals from Carbon and Emery counties to discuss different ways to utilize coal products in our area. “Mining coal for thermal energy production of power plants is just not a long-term strategy. So what other uses of coal, as well as, other earth minerals, there are certain minerals that are kind of on the top and bottom coal seams and things like this. So this group has been put together to work on what’s been called Rural Utah Energy Ecosystem which is not just facilities, but its facilities, property, it’s training, its transportation. To really take the minerals, specifically coal and move us into the 50 – 80 years for our community. There is potential for a lot of activity and investment on part of the local communities,” explained Tatton. There is hope that there can be some legislative funding obtained to help set the table for the big businesses to come into the area, which would boost the local economy. If you think this is some thing that would benefit our area or you would like further information, contact your local elected officials for further details.
The city wants to make sure that citizens obey the snow removal ordinances in order to make snow removal easier for city workers to clear. “The written rule says have everything off the road within 24 hours and you know what everybody in town is usually pretty good. We need a round of applause for, we’ve had all these modest little storms, but really proud of our streets department and those guys. They are out in the middle of the night and they keep the roads clear. There are priority roads that are for public safety, and for safe routes to school, and those kinds of things. Yea, give them a little bit of a thumbs up when they go by and give them a chance to help do their job,” said Tatton. If you are unsure about the snow removal ordinances you can contact the city for further explanation.
