
The Carbon Dinos suffered its first region loss of the season in a rare Saturday afternoon contest with the Canyon View Falcons in Price.
Trailing 30-21 at the end of the first half, Carbon slipped in an even deeper hole as the Falcons won the third quarter 26-19. The Dinos continued to fight late into the game, but could not overcome the 16 point deficit.
Braxton Stevenson posted a team-high 22 points to lead the Dinos in the setback. Chet Anderson added 16 points and Cole Cripps chipped in with 11 as Carbon dipped to 1-1 in Region 12 play.
Carbon shared the ball well offensively, assisting on 14 of the 19 makes from the field throughout the game. Shooting 63-percent from inside the perimeter, the Dinos struggled from beyond the arc where the team hit just seven of 26 attempts.
The unique Saturday afternoon game was scheduled to help Canyon View with lengthy travel. Friday night the Falcons suffered a hard-fought loss to the Emery Spartans 53-52. The back-to-back set wraps up Canyon View’s road trips to the Castle Country area for the season.
Saturday’s loss moves Carbon outside of the top 10 in the UHSAA RPI rankings.
Now 1-1 following a win over Grand and loss to Canyon View, the Dinos will look to refocus for an extremely important week of league play. Wednesday Carbon will host the No. 3 ranked Emery Spartans, before wrapping up the first round of league play on Friday at No. 2 Richfield.
