
The Carbon swim teams were back at it in Cedar City over the weekend for the two day Cedar Invitational. 14 girls teams and 12 boys team took part in the event, and the Lady Dinos finished the weekend in third place with 219 points. The boys came in fourth with 161.5.
Carbon has just one meet left in the regular season, the Last Chance Invitational at Emery on January 21, no spectators will be allowed at this event. After that, regionals will be held in Richfield on January 26 and then the State Tournament will take place at Brigham Young University, February 10-11.
Copper Hills claimed the top spot on the girls side of the pool with 358 points followed by Cedar City in second with 287. Carbon, Emery, and Millard rounded out the top five.
For Carbon the relay team of Hadley Bower, Lisa King, Alyssa Chamberlain, and Mia Crompton earned a first place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:51, ahead of the second place team from Richfield and their time of 1:54.47. In the 200 medley, Evie Halk, Jennacie Jeffery, Ember Lyman and Lily Thayn swam to a sixth place finish.
Chamberlain earned a fourth and fifth place finish in the 50 free and 100 free respectively for the Dinos, while Crompton claimed a sixth place finish in the 50 free and a seventh place in the 100 free.
Ellie Hanson competed in the longest race of the day earning an eighth place finish in the 500 free, and Jeffrey finished the 200 individual medley in seventh. Ada Bradford swam to ninth place in the 100 yard backstroke and a tenth place finish in the 220 free. King earned two tenth place finishes in the 50 free and the 100 free, and Thayn, Lyman, and Halk each earned tenth place spots in the 100 fly, 100 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard backstroke respectively.
For the boys, host Cedar City earned the top spot with 404 points, Canyon View finished in second with 304. Uintah, Carbon, and Grand made up the top five.
Gabe Ibanez came away with a pair of top five finishes with a third in the 200 free and a fourth place in the 100 fly. Nathan Engar claimed fifth in the 500 free and Cameron Jones and Mason Engar both swam to eighth place finishes, Jones in the 500 free and Mason Engar in the 100 free.
In relays the team of Mason Engar, Nathan Engar, Ibanez, and Jones earned a second place finish in the 400 free relay and third place in the 200 free relay.
The Last Chance this weekend in Castle Dale is the final meet of the regular season and unfortunately it is closed to spectators.
The Regional tournament will be held in Richfield on January 26.
