
The Emery Spartan swim teams were on the road once again this time in Cedar City for the Cedar Invitational. This is the second of the year as Cedar City also hosts an invitational in late November as well. For the Lady Spartans it was a fourth place finish with a score of 209 points, the boys earned an eighth place with 146.
The swim season is slowly coming to a close with just one more meet in the regular season, the Last Chance Invitational in Castle Dale this weekend on January 21, but spectators will not be allowed in attendance.
Copper Hills earned the top spot on the girls side of the pool with 358 points, host Cedar City came in second with 287. Carbon, Emery, and Millard rounded out the top five.
Melody Lake had a weekend for the Spartans, with two first place finishes. In the 500 free, she turned in a time of 6:00.67 and another first place finish in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:13.64. Aubrey Guymon claimed a first place finish in the 100 fly with her time of 1:05.45, and a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. Carley Young swam to a fifth place finish in the 100 yard breast stroke, Sydney Carter took seventh in the 50 free.
In relays, the team of Guymon, Lake, Purity Mason and Abby Morris finished in third in the 200 free relay. In the 400 free relay, Rileigh Meccariello, Morris, Guymon and Lake took fourth. Illyria Mason, Ashlyn Durrant, Aspen Jensen and Young made up the team for the Lady Spartans taking eighth in the 200 medley relay.
Host school Cedar City earned first place for the boys with a total of 404 points, Canyon View was in second with 304. Uintah, Carbon and Grand made up the remainder of the top five. Emery landed in the eight spot.
Parker Jensen was one of the top finishers for the Spartans with a fourth place in the 100 yard breaststroke, Kade Larsen swam to an eighth place finish in the race as well. Larsen also finished in ninth in the 200 free.
Tyler Frandsen would finish the 100 yard backstroke in sixth place and Alex Fredrick ended the 500 free in seventh.
The 400 relay team of Bryant Durrant, Frandsen, Fredrick, and Larsen swam to a sixth place finish. Frandsen, Fredrick, Jensen and Wade Stilson earned a sixth place as well, in the 200 medley relay.
Chase Huggard, Durrant, Stilson and Larsen earned a ninth place in the 200 free relay.
Emery will host the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. The Regional Tournament will take place on January 26 in Richfield.
