The Manti La Sal National Forest has cabin and groups site rentals available for the public to enjoy as a getaway. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Forest Service Representative, Ray Manning to get all the details on rentals.
“On the north zone of the forest we have 25 or 26 depending on the system you use, we have cabins, we have campgrounds, we have group sites, and you also have dispersed camping that you could use,” said Manning. Reservations are required in advance for cabin, campgrounds and group sites. Cabins and campgrounds operate on a 6-month rolling basis, while group site operate on a 12-month rolling basis. Many rental cabins on the forest are historic former Forest Service ranger stations and work stations.
There are several cabins available to rent throughout the Mani La Sal National forest. “We do have six cabin sites. We have Mammoth which is near Gooseberry Reservoir. We have the Seely Guard Station which is near Skyline Drive. We have the Orange Olsen site that has two cabins, which is near Joe’s Valley. We also have the Indian Creek Guard Station at Ferron Reservoir,” explained Manning. Campers should know that there are no pets allowed inside the cabins. You can choose from among several opportunities on the Manti La Sal Forest, from cabins perched atop a mountain to a quiet primitive and rustic cabins nestled deep in the forest or close to the lake.
To make reservations you have to do so online and the fee runs from anywhere from $30.00 to $60.00 depending on cabin and the size you reserve. Rental fees are used by the Forest Service to manage and maintain these historic properties. “So they got to go to https://www.recreation.gov/ it’s the entire Forest Service recreation service, it’s based out of New York. So if you do have questions about the cabins, give the local offices a call first. They’ll set you up with your reservation, they’ll send you a door code, so you can actually get into the cabins. Those codes are changed pretty much every time you rent one,” said Manning. All the information and rates on rentals can be found at https://www.recreation.gov/
