Although its cold outside this is a great time for children to take swim lessons during the Winter/Spring sessions being offered at the Desert Wave Pool. Aquatic Coordinator, Tamara Gray stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details with listeners.

Now is the time to start your child in swim lessons so that they will be prepared for swimming in the summer months. “You don’t want to wait till the last minute till summer comes and you’re ready to go to the lake, and you’re oh, he’s afraid of the water, or she’s afraid of the water, you want to get them in and get them comfortable, get them to learn how to be safe in, on or around water. We just don’t teach stroke technique and things like that; we teach them how to be safe.,” stated Gray. The Desert Wave Pool just started their Winter/Spring session of lessons with the second session scheduled to begin on Feb. 6 and running till Mar. 2. Sessions run every four weeks up until May 4.

“So our lessons are taught in the afternoon either on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays depending on the level. You can call the pool we can work out a time with you, so it’s twice a week, 3:45 pm is the first one that starts in the afternoon and they run every half hour; we have a couple of sessions each day,” said Gray. There are several levels of swim lessons that are made available for children and adults.

There are some new hours at the wave pool because of the renovation of the indoor pool. “Then we also have our open swim times which is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There are no waves from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm but there are waves from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A lot of people are loving that, you know the little ones that don’t really like the waves but you want to play in the shallow end of the pool, so there’s that option. Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays we are open from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm but there aren’t any waves because we do have other activities such as swim teams, and swim lessons, water aerobics. Then Saturday we are open noon to 8:00 pm and the waves run 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm,” explained Gray. You can find the new hours for the wave pool on their Facebook page or you can call them at (435) 637-SWIM (7946).
