
The Green River and Pinnacle basketball squads met up on Wednesday night in Price and as always there is never a dull moment when these two teams hook up. This game would go down to the wire with the Panthers earning the win on their home floor 38-34.
Pinnacle has amassed a 10-5 record overall and with the win over Green River they have a 1-0 mark in region play, They also sit at No.12 in the 1A RPI.
Green River is sitting at 4-8 and which includes a region record of 1-3 and they hold the No.16 spot in the RPI which is now updated daily until the state tournament when their final number will be used for seeding.
Wednesday night’s game started out all Pinnacle, as the Panthers jumped out to an early five point lead at the end of the first quarter 8-3. The Pirates came out determined to cut into the Pinnacle lead but just couldn’t quite get there and the Panthers expanded the lead to 20-11 by halftime.
In the second half, Green River came out aggressive once again, but Pinnacle stayed right with them and not giving up much ground maintaining a 29-21 lead in to the final eight minutes. The Pirates did cut it to within four, but the Panthers held on for the 38-34 win.
For Pinnacle, it was Cole Barton who led the way with 15. Jonathan Kessler added 11 and Dominick Vigil added five in the win.
Bridjer Meadows put up 12 for the Pirates with Ryker Meadows and Luis Hernandez each scoring eight.
Next up for the Panthers is a road contest with Whitehorse on Friday, they will be back on their home floor February 3 to take on Monument Valley. Game time is set for 7.
Green River will be home on Friday night to take on Caprock Academy from Grand Junction. Game time is set for 7.
The two teams will meet up once again on February 14 in Green River.
