
The Lady Pirates traveled to Price to face the Lady Panthers on Wednesday night and no matter what their records it’s always a great game, and this one was no different. Green River used big second and third quarters to put the game away taking the 46-34 win.
Pinnacle has had their issues this season working their way to 3-11 overall and with the loss Wednesday night have a 0-1 region record, they currently sit in the No.20 spot in the 1A RPI.
Green River have fought their way to a 3-14 overall record and a 2-2 in region play as they hold the No. 16 RPI, which will be updated until the final game of the season when the position they hold will be their seeding in tournament play.
The two teams put together a great first quarter matching each other point for point as they were all tied up 9-9. In the second quarter, Green River took control of the game, outscoring Pinnacle 16-8 and pushing the halftime score to 25-17.
In the second half, the Lady Pirates came out putting up double digits once again as they would take a 37-25 lead into the fourth and final quarter. Green River kept the same intensity and the Lady Panthers tried to get back into the game but would come up short, 46-34.
For the Panthers, Averee Atwood put up nine, while both Carolina Vasquez and Heather Kerr scored six.
For the Pirates, it was Abigail Irwin leading all scorers with 18. Jordynne Gingerich scored 17 and Jenilee Keener put up 11 in the win.
Next up for the Lady Panthers, they will tangle with Whitehorse on Friday on the road. They won’t be back on their home floor until February 3, when Monument Valley comes to town. Game time is set for 5:30.
The Lady Pirates will hit the floor at home this Friday when they take on Caprock Academy from Grand Junction.
Green River and Pinnacle will meet one more time on the Pirates’ home floor on February 14.
