The USU Extension Office, along with Price River Watershed Conservation District are hosting the annual Castle Valley Crop School on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
“So this really is geared towards anybody in our area that either has farmland, maybe pasture or maybe they’re even ranching. We typically kind of rotate between different topics each year and then we also have some ag service or equipment vendors, kind of program sponsors that come in. So it’s also a nice time to get to talk to those guys too and see what’s going on locally,” stated Agriculture Agent, Steve Price. This free event is open to anyone in the agricultural field and it will take place at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of USU Eastern.
The Castle Valley Crop school will have guest speakers come in and talk about various topics to help in daily agriculture practices. “This year we have few different types of speakers. So we have somebody that will be talking about Soil Health and Conservation Practice Programs that are available for people to get involved with. We’ll also have a speaker talk about Integrated Pest Management, so how to economically manage pests in a way that we’re not taking unnecessary risks. Then our last speaker will actually have somebody talk about Pasture Management or improving your management on pasture during drought,” explained Price. Following the discussions guests will be able to ask any questions they may have about the presentations.
Registration for the Castle Valley Crop School is free and currently taking place so a head count is needed as there will be a free dinner served. “So you can contact Julie Weber with the Price River Water Shed Conservation District or you can also just give us a call at the Carbon County Extension Office or shoot me an email, and we’ll get you on that list. There isn’t any cost but just for planning purposes we need to know about how many people we have coming,” stated Price. Julie Weber can be reached at (435) 381-2300 ext. 101 or Carbon County USU Extension Office can be reached at (435) 636-3233.
