The Spartan swim team along with the rest of Region 12 were in Richfield on Thursday to compete in the Region Championships. Both teams for the Spartans the boys and girls finished in third place.
Canyon View was the big winner on the boy’s side of the pool compiling 513 points far ahead of second place that belonged to Richfield with 323. Emery, Carbon, and Grand followed to round out the top five.
Jacob Fauver had two third-place finishes in both the 50 free and 100 free. Tyler Frandsen had a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a fifth place in the 200 IM, and Kade Larsen swam to a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In relays, the team of Bryant Durrant, Larsen, Fauver, and Frandsen earned a second-place finish in the 200-free relay, while Will Stilson was joined by Larsen, Parker Jensen, and Alex Fredrick for fourth place in the 400-free relay.
Carbon finished the day in the top spot of the girl’s side of the pool with 463 points Canyon View was just behind with 424 in second. Emery, Richfield, and Grand made the rest of the top five.
Melody Lake brought home two first-place finishes in the 200 IM turning in a time of 2:30.25, and then again in the 500 free with a time of 5:59.04. Carley Young brought home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ashley Guymon turned in two-second place spots in the 100 fly and the 100 backstroke. Sydney Carter earned a fourth-place finish in the 50 free and fifth place in the 100 free, and Riliegh Meccariello took fourth place in the 200 free.
Emery captured two first-place finishes in the 200 medley and 400 free. In the 200, Carter, Guymon, Lake, and Aspen Jensen turned in a first-place time of 2:03.37, and in the 400, Carter, Lake, Guymon, and Abby Morris claimed the top spot with a time of 4:05.84. The Lady Spartan team of Jessie Childs, Purity Mason, Morris, and Meccariello swam their way to a fifth-place finish on the 200-free relay.
