
Friday night the Lady Spartans welcomed the Canyon View Falcons to the Spartan Center. The Spartans and Falcons met up in Cedar City on January 10, with Canyon View taking a 53-50 win. On Friday night, Emery couldn’t get over the hump offensively, falling 56-50.
The Lady Spartans currently sit in the No. 10 RPI spot with a 9-8 overall record, and are searching for their first region victory. The season is winding down as Emery has just a couple of games left in the regular season.
Canyon View sits in the No. 8 spot at 12-6 overall and a 2-2 region mark.
In the first quarter, Canyon View and Emery battled it out, with the Falcons holding just a three-point advantage, going in to the second, Emery would stay within striking distance but still went in to the locker room down by four, 29-25.
In the third, the Lady Spartans came out a bit flat, only scoring nine points, while the Falcons increased their lead to 42-34. The fourth was played almost even but Canyon View’s lead was too much for Emery to overcome and the Spartans fell 56-50.
Katelyn Nielson scored 10 adding four rebounds in the contest. Aliya Lester and Karleigh Stilson each scored nine with Lester adding five rebounds and Stilson grabbing six.
The Spartans have two more games left this season on the road in Richfield and home for Carbon.
Up first will be a road contest at Richfield. The Wildcats are the No.2 team in 3A with a record of 16-3 overall with a 3-1 region mark.
They will be back home on the following Thursday, February 9 to face the No. 4 Carbon Dinos.
