This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Connie Todachinnie took time to speak over the telephone about the school’s faculty and staff, lunch balances, and student leadership.

The school would not be able to function without the hard work of faculty and staff. “We know that coming into the third quarter that’s our really tough time, to make sure that our kids are getting what they need, and they’re ready for testing. I have a phenomenal, phenomenal, staff – if things change on the fly, people are willing to say, okay, I’m there for you. So we got a really, really, great staff,” said Principal Todachinnie. There have been some changes with faculty at the school so having them able to adapt to the changes has been very helpful for the administration.

There were a couple of gentlemen that stopped by the school to visit with the lunch lady regarding students’ lunch accounts. “They put sizeable amounts, I’m not sure exactly how much, but a sizeable amount towards all of our kids’ lunches. Paid off some balances, and put some money on there moving forward I just want to say thank you,” said Principal Todachinnie. There have also been community members that have brought in gift cards to help the school out as well. The school is so blessed to have community members that care about the school and its students.

The school has a unique way of directing its Student Leadership program with the fifth graders. They break it up in quarters, to allow five to six students each quarter to get an opportunity to be a student leader and help plan several school activities. “They have done things like; they just had a food drive during the holidays. The Student Leadership sponsored the door decorating contest, and they celebrate birthdays, and so they’ve done a lot, it’s wonderful to see. They help with attendance celebrations and different recognitions like that. So it’s nice, we just switch out every quarter,” explained Principal Todachinnie. The school has found that this has given all fifth-grade students an opportunity to show their individual leadership skills.
