Despite playing a competitive first half the Carbon Dinos were unable to keep pace with the Canyon View Falcons, suffering a 60-40 loss in Cedar City Friday night.

Setting the tone with defense throughout the first two quarters, the Dinos remained in striking distance trailing 25-20 at the end of the first half. The Falcons used a 17-11 run in the third quarter to increase the lead to double-figures, then outscored Carbon 18-9 over the final eight minutes.

Braxton Stevenson posted a team-high 14 points as the Dinos slipped to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in Region 12 play. Chet Anderson scored 10 points and Zeke Wilson recorded nine, all of which came from beyond the perimeter. Dominic Cowan and Ryker Butler combined for seven points.

Carbon struggled to slow the Falcons down from the three-point line. Canyon View gathered a hefty advantage from deep, doubling up the Dinos with 10 makes from the perimeter. Most of the damage came from Chad Hartmann, who ended with a game-high 16 points and four triples.

Andrew Barnes added 10 points for the Falcons as the backcourt continued to play high quality basketball. Miles Topham finished with nine points and five others reached the scoresheet to help Canyon View earn the win.

Friday’s road loss did not affect the Dinos in the UHSAA’s RPI standings. Still ranked No. 12, the Dinos hold a slight advantage over both North Sanpete and Ogden who are 8-10 and 7-11 overall respectively.

The Dinos will now shift focus to the final week of the regular season where two important games could potentially lead to a quick climb in the RPI. Wednesday Carbon will travel to Castle Dale for a second meeting with No. 3 Emery, before returning home Friday to face the No. 2 ranked Richfield Wildcats on Senior Night.

Wednesday’s road meeting with the Emery Spartans will air live on KRPX 95.3 The Peak. Coverage will begin at 6:30 PM with the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-Game Show, followed by tip-off at 7:00.
