
Abigail Erwin continues her scoring barrage for the Lady Pirates putting up 69 points in the last two games for Green River. In the game with the Monticello Buckaroo, last Thursday, Erwin put up 45 points in the 74-45 win, and then on Saturday in front of the home crowd taking on Monument Valley, she would put up another 24 this time in a 72-53 loss.
Green River (5-15, 3-3 in region and No. 15 in 1A), are heading into the final four games of the season before the 1A State Playoffs start. The initial round will be held at home sites starting on February 25, with the final rounds taking place at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
Beginning on last Thursday, the Lady Pirates started a run of two games in three days in Monticello (3-13, 1-4 in region and No. 19). Green River came out firing in the first quarter putting up 14, but went off in the second scoring 25 and taking a 39-17 lead into the locker room at half time.
Coming out in the second half, it was pretty close to what they did in the first, with 13 in the third and another 22 in the fourth and claiming the 74-45 win.
Along with Erwin’s 45, Jenilee Keener added 11 and Rosa Barragan added 9.
Next it was back home for Monument Valley (13-5, 6-0 in region and No. 5), on Saturday. The Cougars jumped out in the first quarter scoring 30. Things calmed down a bit in the second with Monument Valley scoring just 8, and the Lady Pirates would go to the locker room down 38-27 at halftime.
Coming out in the second, Green River would try to battle back putting up 14 in the third and another 12 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough and they would fall to Monument Valley 72-53.
For the Lady Pirates, Erwin put up 24, Keener added 15 and Jordynne Gingerich had 14.
The Lady Pirates will be back home on Thursday, February 9 to face Tintic. Game time is set for 7.
